Tasmania University Student Association

The TUSA has a range of services including advocacy, financial counselling and emergency support. If you attend campus at Sandy Bay there is also a dedicated LGBTIQA+ space.

TUSA spaces are open Mon – Fri from 8:30am - 4pm. The Queer Room is in the TUSA Building where you can sit back, have a break, catch up on all the news and meet some new people. There is also a women’s room.

Clubs and Societies

The Pride Society of TUSA advocate for diversity and equal opportunity for all people at the university as well as welcoming social and study spaces for LGBTIQA+ students.

QHAMS Queer Health and Medical Students is a group to help connect in LGBTIQA+ health and medical students at UTAS, with regular meetups during the semester. We encourage all queer and questioning folk in the UTAS College of Health Medicine or adjacent degrees, to join our Facebook group for further updates.

Clubs and Societies are a great way to connect with others and find people with similar interests. With over 130 of them, you’re bound to find one for you.

The Ally Network

The Ally network aims to:

  • Provide a visible network of identified ALLIES to people of diverse sexualities, sexes and gender identities to be agents of change.
  • Create a safe, nurturing, inclusive, and affirming University environment.
  • Build a support and advocacy network through education; develop further awareness and visibility of staff and students of diverse sexualities and gender identities and their issues.

Allies are people in the University who are informed about, sensitive toward, and understanding of people of diverse sexualities and gender identities and their issues. Allies can be approached if there are aspects of your experience at University as a sexually and gender diverse person that you need to discuss.

Allies will be happy to listen, provide guidance and be a supportive point of contact. Allies are not counsellors or caseworkers. You can find a list of allies on the ally-network webpage, or by keeping an eye out for the rainbow triangle on office doors.
